Phillies win the World Series!

Posted by Carlos C. on Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 at 9:58 pm

FINALLY!

Breaking News…

Developing…

UPDATE 1: Philly.com

After 28 years, and two days of waiting for the rain to stop so that Game 5 of the World Series could resume, the wait is over.

The Phillies are the champions of the baseball world.

Pedro Feliz singled in pinch-runner Eric Bruntlett with the tie-breaking run in the seventh inning, and Brad Lidge finished up a perfect year out of the bullpen by closing in the ninth to lift the Phillies to a 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays last night at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies won all three games at the Bank to clinch the best-of-seven series, four games to one, and win their first World Series title since 1980. The fourth victory was the most difficult since the game had been suspended Monday night due to a cold wind-blown rain after 51/2 innings with the score tied 2-2.

After a 48-hour wait, the game resumed last night with a bang - pinch-hitter Geoff Jenkins’ ringing double to right-center leading off the Phillies sixth. Jenkins came around to score on a bloop single by Jayson Werth.

But this wasn’t going to be easy. Tampa Bay tied the game in the seventh on Rocco Baldelli’s solo home run and threatened to take the lead before Chase Utley threw out Jason Bartlett at home when Bartlett tried to score from second on an infield single by Akinori Iwamura.

Pat Burrell picked up his first hit of the series, a double to left-center, to lead off the seventh. Bruntlett, who went in to run for him, reached third on a groundout by Shane Victorino and scored on Feliz’s single up the middle.

J.C. Romero worked 11/3 innings to pick up the win. Lidge gave up a broken-bat single in the ninth to Dioner Navarro but struck out pinch-hitter Eric Hinske on three pitches amid a barrage of camera flashes to pick up the save, his 48th in 48 opportunities this season.

Lidge fell to his knees after the final out, and he was mobbed a split second later by his teammates.

As a 26-year-old lifelong Phillies fan, I am just awestruck right now.

UPDATE 2: My friends…

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!

And Phillies Phans, no one will ever take this away from us…

UPDATE 3:

Still the champions.

UPDATE 4: A Rays fan in Philadelphia takes a bottle to the head!

Idiot.

Game 5 of the World Series postponed until Wednesday.

Posted by Carlos C. on Tuesday, October 28th, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Fox Sports

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The World Series won’t resume until Wednesday night at the earliest.

With rain still falling in Philadelphia, Major League Baseball decided not to attempt to complete Game 5 between the Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. The completion of the game tentatively was scheduled for 8:37 p.m. Wednesday.

“While obviously we want to finish Game 5 as soon as possible, the forecast for today does not allow for us to continue the game this evening,” commissioner Bud Selig said. “We are closely monitoring tomorrow’s forecast and will continue to monitor the weather on an hourly basis. We will advise fans as soon as we are able to make any final decisions with respect to tomorrow’s schedule.”

The game, played in increasingly heavy rain, was suspended Monday following a 30-minute delay with the Phillies and Rays tied 2-2 after 5 1/2 innings. It was the first time a World Series game that began wasn’t played to completion on the same day.

Philadelphia leads the Series 3-1 and is hoping to close out its second title, its first since 1980.

As a lifelong Phillies Phan, I can wait a couple of more days until the Phillies clinch the World Series title. However, some of my Phillies brethren are not as patient, and I understand their frustration and anger. I too am angry, but uncharacteristically to my personal demeanor, I have decided to stay cool, calm, and collected.

I pray that the Phillies win in front of the fans in the City of Philadelphia. Game 5 will resume with the Phillies batting in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Phillies will get four chances to hit, while Tampa Bay will only get three. Both the Phillies and Rays will have rested bullpens, so I will not be surprised if the game went into extra innings.

Honestly, the Phillies need to win in Philadelphia. Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard have difficulty seeing the baseball at the poorly lit Tropicana Field in Saint Petersburg. The Phillies can avoid their vision difficulties by winning Wednesday night.

Ya Gotta Believe!

Go Phillies!

OPEN BLOG.

Posted by Carlos C. on Sunday, October 12th, 2008 at 9:50 pm

As the Head Writer at Scoop This, I want to apologize for my absence this past weekend. Since re-launching Scoop This on July 18, I have not had any sleep, and after nearly 85 days of no sleep, I have succumb to mental fatigue. However, Monday begins a new “work week” with new blogs. I will do my best to post at least 10 new blogs tomorrow, so I do hope all of our readers take the time to read those blogs and comment.

My favorite sports teams are doing well. Penn State University Nittany Lions are ranked number 3 in the college football nation. They should get a chance at the National Championship. Darryl Clark, the Nittany Lions quarterback, should be considered for a Heisman Trophy. Why? Well, Clark commands a Nittany Lions offense that scores 45 points per game. That’s why.

My other favorite college football team are the Miami Hurricanes. I believe the ‘Canes will compete for a National Championship in 2010 if they keep all of their young players. The ‘Canes will struggle this year, but should be ranked nationally next year in the Top 25. Coach Shannon is recruiting players from winning programs all across the state of Florida, so expect the Hurricanes to be back real soon.

The Philadelphia Eagles put up 40 points against the Arizona Cardinals today! Plus, the Cowboys and Redskins lost. Hopefully the Ravens will be able to knock off the Giants tomorrow night.

The Philadelphia Phillies have a 2-0 lead in the National League Championship Series! Right now, however, the Phillies are losing 6 to 1 in the bottom of the third inning against the Dodgers. The benches cleared, but a fight did not occur. I hope there is a fight and someone rocks the crap out of Manny Ramirez!

Well, the political blogs will return tomorrow. I have a lot of blogging to do tomorrow. The last presidential debate is on Wednesday night. John McCain is vowing to whip Barack Obama’s ass in the debate. Before all of you silly mental midget liberals begin to spin this blog, no, McCain did not use the word “ass”. I did. Also, I will set straight all the idiotic crap liberals have been spewing since the “trooper gate” non-scandal finally came to an end, especially the fact that Governor Palin did not break any laws.

Until then, congratulations to the Philadelphia Phillies on winning the National League Division Series!

Feel free to post comments!

“Bomb scare” at the Philadelphia Phillies Citizens Bank Park!

Posted by Carlos C. on Thursday, September 25th, 2008 at 9:43 am

CBS 3

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― The discovery of several hot dogs in packages outside Citizens Bank Park brought the bomb squad out and forced the temporary evacuation of the stadium Wednesday evening.

According to police, Pattison Street between Darien and 11th Streets was shutdown as officials investigated the discovery of several suspicious packages near a ticket office.

Fans inside the stadium were evacuated, but players remained on the field during the incident.

Bomb squad members further investigated the packages and determined they were simply several hot dogs in foil wrappers. Sadly, the wieners were detonated as a precaution.

The stadium was reopened at about 5:20 p.m.

“It was clear from when we looked at it at first glance and when you looked at the debris afterwards, there was packaging and duct tape; I don’t see many hot dogs sold here with duct tape,” Phillies VP of Operations Michael Stiles said. “We just did what we felt was appropriate.”

Damn! At least the “bomb scare” was nothing serious. This occurred before the Phillies and Braves baseball game last night.

I would hate to see anything bad happen to my Phillies or Citizens Bank Park. I could care less about the Braves.

Hopefully, the Phillies will clinch a playoff berth and the National League East Championship this weekend.

Boy falls from stands at Phillies game!

Posted by Carlos C. on Thursday, August 28th, 2008 at 2:41 pm

Online Videos by Veoh.com

As a Phillies Phan, I watch every Phillies game, thanks to my MLB DirecTV package. However, this is the first time I have seen this video or heard of this event taking place. The boy was trying to catch a fly ball during batting practice, fell 12 feet from the stands onto the field, got up, and started crying! (I think I would cry, too.) By all accounts, the boy did not suffer any injuries.
