When did America and France “kick out” Hezbollah?

Posted by Carlos C. on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 4:04 pm

Joe Biden said last night:

When we kicked — along with France, we kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon, I said, and Barack said, ‘Move NATO forces in there. Fill the vacuum, because if you don’t know — if you don’t, Hezbollah will control it.

I am not sure when America or France were ever at war with Hezbollah. I know that Israel and Hezbollah had a war over the summer in July of 2006. I would love for NATO forces to take out Hezbollah, but that would set off a powder keg, and if Iran does have a nuke, or nukes, they would be launched without haste.

Also, the Jawas note:

The U.S. and Europeans did cooperate to pressure Syria to move its troops out of Lebanon in the wake of the assassination of the Lebanese politician whose name escapes me at the moment, but that’s a very different thing.

The politician’s name was Pierre Gemayel. His assassination was extremely bloody, too.

I thought Joe Biden’s expertise was in foreign policy?

Chalk up another one for the gaffe-o-meter!

Do not be intimidated, France!

Posted by Carlos C. on Thursday, August 21st, 2008 at 3:23 am

PARIS (Reuters) – France reacted in shock on Wednesday to the death of 10 of its soldiers in an ambush in Afghanistan and questions began to be asked about the country’s worst military loss in 25 years.

President Nicolas Sarkozy, who flew to Kabul on Tuesday, said France was committed to its engagement in Afghanistan where it took part in the 2001 invasion to topple the Taliban.

But the opposition Socialists called for a parliamentary committee to meet and doubts were expressed about the official account of the incident in which the 10 soldiers were killed and 21 wounded in a fierce mountain battle.

“Afghanistan — should we leave?” ran the front-page headline of the Thursday edition of left-wing newspaper Liberation, which is strongly critical of Sarkozy’s policies.

Only Socialists and liberals give up when the fighting gets tough! Do not be like them, France. America and your allies in Afghanistan mourn the loss of your soldiers with you, but now is the time to regroup and fight!

Do not be like the Spanish. After the March 11, 2004 train bombings in Madrid by Al Qaeda operatives, the Spanish people voted Socialists into power 5 days later. The Spanish Socialists pulled their 9,000 Spanish troops from Iraq. And the first order of business for the Spanish Socialists? Pass gay marriage rights.

Obviously, passing gay marriage rights is more important in Spain than fighting Al Qaeda in a war for the survival of all free people. Stay resilient, France. Do not be like the Spanish!
