UNICEF unites with Islamic charity.

And the Islamic children’s charity has ties to Al Qaeda and the Taliban!

Fox News.com

An Islamic charity with ties to Al Qaeda and the Taliban is now collaborating with an unlikely new partner: UNICEF, the United Nations’ Children’s Fund.

UNICEF has signed a “memorandum of understanding” with the International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO), a Saudi charity of massive scope that keeps branches in more than 20 countries and has over 100 offices worldwide.

According to UNICEF, it will be teaming with the charity’s domestic Saudi branch to “promote children’s rights, health, equality and education,” in the oil-rich kingdom — but the organization has been doing more than just charity work.

The U.S. Treasury Department has designated the IIRO’s branches in the Philippines and Indonesia as terrorist entities for funding and supporting terrorist groups that have killed hundreds in East Asia. The Philippine branch was founded by Usama bin Laden’s brother-in-law, Muhammad Jamal Khalifah, and has long had ties to Al Qaeda.

The U.N. itself says that both the Indonesian and Philippine branches of IIRO are tied to Al Qaeda and the Taliban, and has singled them out for an asset freeze, arms embargo and travel ban on members of the groups.

But that hasn’t stopped the U.N. from recognizing the Saudi office as a legitimate relief group, nor has it stopped UNICEF — or other U.N. agencies — from working with it in the past.

According to Chris de Bono, UNICEF’s chief of media, “UNICEF does not and will not engage with” the two East Asian branches. Its new partnership is with the main Saudi branch only, and UNICEF will coordinate relief primarily for children living within Saudi Arabia, de Bono said.

The U.S. government also noted the distinction between the head office and the international branches.

“We are monitoring the situation closely, but we also understand the difference between the IIRO main headquarters and its branches,” Carolyn Vadino, deputy spokeswoman for the U.S. mission to the U.N., wrote in an e-mail to FOX News.

“It is the two branches in question that are designated and have ties to terrorists and at this time we have been assured that they are separate entities,” Vadino wrote.

But some critics are not convinced the distinction is so clear.

“We have to look a lot harder at whether or not an organization that’s headquartered in one country is really disconnected from operations which bear the same name in other countries and are referred to as branches,” said Anne Bayefsky, senior editor of Eye on the U.N., a watchdog group.

According to the Treasury Department, the head of the IIRO’s Eastern Province branch has been directly funding the two terror-tied branches — straight from his office in Saudi Arabia.

If anyone is thinking about donating to UNICEF, please reconsider.

Donate the money to another children’s charity, such as Save The Children.org.

A mother’s plea: Let her know you heard her!

Posted by Ricky Minton on Friday, November 21st, 2008 at 8:19 pm

I don’t normally post these types of emails, but the following email I received from Brandy Routh, a local woman whose daughter is in need of a bone marrow transplant is a serious one.  Their plea has been heard in our local community here in East Texas, and I felt that it would be beneficial to them if I posted this email.

If you can help them, trust me it’s worth it.  I donated what I could this month and plan to assist them again next month.

A Mother’s Plea

My little girl Emma Routh age 3 is just one of thousands that are waiting on a bone marrow match to save their life.  With the help of DKMS America there is a hope.  We can do testing to anyone that wants to get tested.  The cost of the testing is $65 per person.  The great thing is with DKMS we do not turn anyone away for the fact they can’t pay and we don’t have to raise the money to pay for testing.  Any donation big or small it helps them pay the lab to do the test.  What is not given in donations they take care of them self’s.  This is a great dead that is need in this crises.  This means that we can get thousands of people tested and we can find hundreds of mat ch saving many lives.  With any hope one of thoughts will be the one that saves Emma’s life.  As her mother this is my goal to get bone marrow awareness out to the public and to have it be as well known as blood donating.  These are some of the things that we go bye in our mission.  Give the greatest gift of all the gift of life.  To get a test kit sent to your house please contact www.dkmsamericas.org or the Routh family.

Think you for your time.

Cheetah strippers save Veterans Day Parade.

Posted by Carlos C. on Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 at 7:44 pm

Palm Beach Post

WEST PALM BEACH — Dogs, strippers and aliens have helped save the Veterans Day parade.

Parade fund-raiser Dennis Koehler said Wednesday that the Nov. 9 march on Clematis Street, which had been on the verge of cancellation, has been rescued by contributions from Lois Pope, widow of tabloid king Generoso Pope, the Palm Beach Kennel Club, the Cheetah strip clubs and other donors.

A $2,000 pledge from Pope put organizers over the top.

“That will bump us over the $12,000 mark and the parade will go on,” Koehler said.

The parade is organized by a coalition of Palm Beach County veterans groups. It was imperiled because, in the tough economy, contributions fell $12,000 short of what was needed for insurance, law enforcement and sanitation.

Wal-Mart employees also contributed to the Veterans Day Parade fund.

However, contributions fished from strippers thongs are more interesting.
