UPDATE 1:
UPDATE 2: The fighting in South Ossetia between Russia and Georgia could escalate into a much larger war. President Bush, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, and Senator John McCain have called for Russia to stop its attack, withdraw Russian troops, and respect Georgia’s sovereignty. Before heading off to Hawaii for a 7-day vacation, Senator Barack Obama condemned the violence and stated for both sides to show restraint.
UPDATE 3: After Russian military aircraft the Georgian town of Gori and killed scores of civilians, Georgia’s President Mikhail Saakashvili has proposed a cease fire in South Ossetia.
UPDATE 4: Georgian official says that Georgian troops will withdraw from South Ossetian capital.
